I am interested in joining collaborative projects such as Antigo and the FSA to practice my mapping while I wait for progress on territory requests.
I am thinking of claiming either AR120-36, 35 or 31 to make an Appalachian and Midwest-themed state.
Since we already have a Quebec in the far southwest of the FS, I have thought of making a state with significant German-speaking populations (or perhaps an own dialect like Pennsylvania Dutch). I have already seen a couple German town names on the map.
Is there any interest pertaining to such a project? Do any owners of already-existing states want to collaborate on this?
Note: unlike in the real US, German would actually be a (secondary) official language on county level in the affected regions. The "Archantan Germans" or whatever they would be called would have their own public school systems, religious communities and political organizations. Perhaps there also could be an equivalent to the Amish?
Edit: the german influence might go as far as using German as the "secondary" language of some cities, but I don't think that there will be whole "german-speaking states" without some sort of Law 101. However, there most certainly will be areas with predominantly German city names (possibly even with preserved Umlauts), where more than 50% of the people will speak German. Official institutions will have names in German.
There will also be half-timbered houses in the villages.
As such, the influence will still be much stronger than in real life.
I imagine that "cultural borders" between areas settled by people from various German-speaking countries and with non-German areas might arise.
