Please change your JOSM preferences

$

I'm happy to announce that, starting today, OGF tile rendering runs on a separate server. Hopefully, this will positively affect application performance.

It also means that JOSM users need to adapt their imagery preferences, as described here:

http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/OGF:Frequently_asked_questions#How_can_I_display_the_OpenGeofiction_map_as_background_in_JOSM.3F

Note that this applies only to the "Imagery preferences". The "Connection settings" for API access remain as they are.

To ensure a smooth transition process, the tile rendering on the old server will remain enabled for the next few days, but expect it to be switched off in the near future.

I was wondering if there is a possibility of an 'international business directory'. I guess it would work similar to inviting others to build embassies in your nation.

Golden Delta Film Festival

Hello, folks! I've been thinking about more cultural activities for our countries to be involved into, so I decided to create a film festival that will be hosted by Neo Delta, in the city of Ezajun, the capital of cinema in Neo Delta.

Each and every country is invited to submit up to 3 films of any type of genre. Submissions should be made by commenting is the comment section of this post and they will be taken into the future wiki page of the festival. The categories will include Best Film, Best Main Actress, Best Main Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, Best Music, Best Animated Movie and Best Documentary.

The requirements are simple. Each submission should provide at least the name of the film and the genre (besides the country of origen). Of course other sort of information is welcome, and it will increase the chances that the film wins some of the categories.

The following are two examples with the minimum amount of information, and with the suggested information:

MINIMUM:

  1. FILM: The Mountain of The Butterfly

  2. GENRE: Drama

  3. COUNTRY: Neo Delta

OPTIONAL:

  1. FILM: Fire in the Woods

  2. GENRE: Adventure

  3. MAIN ACTOR: Mart Juteg-Lipe

  4. MAIN ACTRESS: Sanna Huje-Bulao

  5. SUPPORTING ACTOR: Sentin Karo-Gert

  6. MUSIC: The Windows Never Close

  7. DIRECTOR: Same Orahe-Tert

  8. SYNOPSIS: A group of friends is lost is a jungle when they find ancient secrets that take them to a world of incredible adventures

  9. COUNTRY: Neo Delta

I would personally encourage synopsis, so that we'd know more about your film! So, this is it, let me know what you think! Suggestions are more than welcome!

Landuse for Neo Delta (and Brugas)

Hey, folks! I'm happy to share with you one of my first projects for Neo Delta since I started editing the country more than one year ago: finishing the mapping of the "landuse".

As you can see in the picture below (or in this link http://i.imgur.com/pM8jOfI.png), I decided to cover the entire country with landuse options, as well as some natural, water and agricultural features. Although I understand that some people don't really care about this aspect of mapping and if we check OpenStreetMap, we'll see that a lot of it is plain white, that was something that always annoyed me (and now, at certain zoom levels, Neo Delta will be flood free!).

I'm pretty happy with the result, although now that I'm a more experienced user, I'd certainly would have done the same process in a whole different way, using more relations, for example. As for the next steps, I'm pretty sure I'll change a lot of this landuse in the future, and there are plenty of small towns to create and buildings everywhere, but at least for now I have the feeling I finished a project for the first time on OGF and that makes me happy!

I'll be even happier with suggestions and comments from you, people! :D

High Zoom problems in JOSM

Hey you guys,

Most of the time JOSM works just fine, but when I zoom in to a scale of a couple of meters, the programm becomes unbearably slow. At first I thought it had something to do with my laptop or perhaps the areas I downloaded, but then user BartleDuc contacted me, telling me he had the same problems when tried to zoom in to make a detailed train station. Yesterday I received a message from user azerty2935, who wondered why JOSM stopped working whenever he zoomed in on his Island nation, so it seems to be a common problem.

If have used JOSM in the past without any complications and I used high zoom a lot for the more detailed work in my towns and cities, also without any problems. These issues the three of us have are a recent thing, They have been bothering me for the last couple of weeks.

So I wondered if any of you experience the same difficulties when working with JOSM and if any of you have some good tips to solve these problems,

Thanks in advance,

TRJ

Creating Infobox templates on the wikipedia

So, I was inspired by Deltanz' Golden Delta Film Awards to write a wiki article about Wiwaxia's entry in the awards. Despite my serious lack of digital savvy, I made one feeble attempt in my sandbox at creating an infobox template for films. Not surprisingly, it failed. Any advice on creating infobox templates? Or someone else who knows how to do them want to create one like the Wikipedia wikipedia film infobox?

Map problems

For some reasons zoom levels 17, 18 and 19, the map does not update on standard layer. Zoom 17 has received 1 update in the past 24 hours but zoom 18 and 19 have not been updated at all. So far, I have tried 4 devices and they all have the same problem. The affected area is down below. Zoom out and you will see the difference.

Does anyone see/not see my problem on the map or have the problem yourself?

Things I know about the problem:

  1. It is not a problem caused by my computer. I have tried on multiple devices to the same effect.
  2. It only happens in 'standard' layer. The other layers are fine and display map data properly. The editors in Potlatch and ID show the correct data as well. For some reason, the 'standard' map preview on the map layers menu displays the updated data.
  3. It is a recent occurrence, because edits in the last 24 hours are not displayed, whereas edits I have done before that have shown up.
  4. It is a local occurrence. I mapped a road in Commonia today and it showed up on all zoom levels.
  5. It is possibly a one off issue. I have mapped nearby and all updates have shown.

Vienna Name Change

Evening everyone,

After some advice from fellow mappers. I decided to change Vienna's name.

Vienna is now Wustesonne (meaning 'Desert Sun')

Will I be able to just change the country's name on the Wiki, or will there need to be a new page?

I've build an airport.

Hi there. I've been making some little edits around Austraĉerfubo, and the most notorious one is this: Airport Airport name is Eksilita Kompasso Internacia Flughaveno (Compass of the Exiles International Airport) and it is compossed by two runways of 3km, 3 main terminals, comunication with the raiway within a station and a special area for cargo flights, with another two runways of 1.5 km. The main goal of this airport is to become one of the most important (or the most important) airport in South Harda Archipelago and the main one for the aereal comunications in Aŭstrasuno Tero.

I'm open to feedback, and I really need it. Also, I'm looking for a guide of how to map metro, massive transport, and public transport routes, anyone out there?

The city of Malaperis - Quebertia's road numbering system

$

The City of Malaperis is situated at the mouth of the Gottlieb river. In the 1700's early explorers established Fort Malaperis at the mouth of the river. The city built up around the fort over time. In the mid 1900's a group of educators from around the world establisehd a university in the northern section of town.

The city also sits at the feet of the Dayton Hills. Local officials were looking for a bypass of the city to the north, but building it north of the Dayton Hills would be too far for any benefit, but the location of the Baer Creek runs through the only good location closer in. Portions of Q-1 have been upgraded to a motorway through this area, but ongoing environmental concerns have stalled any further upgrades.

There used to be a bridge over the Gottlieb river on Colin Way. This bridge was demolished due to obsolescence.

I've decided on a numbering system for the roads in Quebertia, will start implemnting it in the near future. Every route will start with a Q. Odd numbered routes go east-west, with the lowest numbers starting in the west , and even numbered routes will go north-south with lowest numbered routes in the south.

A bypass will get a -A at the end

A spur will get a -B at the end

The mainline routes will have no additional lettering unless route is a toll, in that case a -T will be appended to the end

For example, if a business spur for Q-1 is ever created, it will be called Q-1-B

This is the numbering of the national routes. I include the Q in the route number to distinguish national routes from local routes.

I'm going to implement this system soon. Any thoughts would be welcome

Some international projects

Hello everyone,

I would like to remind you of some international projects on OGF! It would be great if more countries could participate in them.

The World Park

A project I started in July this year, inspired by the The World archipelago in Dubai. I wanted to create something like this in OGF, but then in a park. You can see it here. More information can be found in the first diary I posted about this. I would really like to have more countries having a plot here, so you can request your one on the wiki talk page of the park

World Series Basketball

The World Series Basketball is a tournament in which 6 nations participate. These are all one of the best of the world. I need only 2 more countries for the tournament, but this should be countries that are good in basketball.

2016 Summer Geolympiad

I created two pages about the 2016 Summer Geolympiad (our olympic games). These are List of archers at the 2016 Summer Geolympiad and List of 2016 Summer Geolympiad broadcasters. If you would like to add your archers and/or broadcasters, that would be very nice :)

2018 International Foosball World Cup

User Ernestpcosby has set foosball on the map in OGF, and in 2018 he wants to organize the IFWC (International Foosball World Cup) outside Freedemia for the first time. Other countries can bid for that and only one has did so far. It would be great to see other bids of course.

Well, I think that were all the things I wanted to mention :p I hope you've found some projects you like to collaborate in.

Tarott - Slow progress, mapper's challenges and Pancontinental Games (Geolympiad) 2008

$

Inspired by Luciano's Mapper's Challenge #6 - September, 2016 - GETTING AROUND, I started creating the metro line (U-Bahn) relations for the city of Tarott. Well... I started, at least.

Mapping since more than two weeks now, up to a few hours almost every day, I only managed to finish the first part of U1 (the oldest metro line of Tarott, regarding the inner city section, and part of the small-profile network, details here). So I'm presenting an "intermediate" result to you now. Here's how far I got:

Inbound southern part of U1 and outbound direction of the same section.

Why did I only get this far? The explanation is quite simple: Tarott, as some of you know, was imported from a "non-GIS" vector file right after the birth of OGF, a vector file that had been drawn only for graphical purposes in Adobe Illustrator. You can still see the annoying results in the largest part of Tarott. Along with drawing the metro line details, I decided to add the details (almost eveything important except residential buiildings) within the surrounding areas. This - I must admit - takes much longer than I thought. (Actually, it's a pity that I had only drawn Tarott outside OGF in this "unprofessional" way since 2010 before OGF started, now I have to do all the work once again...)

But have a look at the result, compare the areas next to the mentioned part of the metro line to other regions and you see where I'm heading (at the speed of a tired snail). And see the Hattneypark details I added today instead of focusing on a continued U1 relation. :)

Oh, and there's one more important thing that I wanted to show (even though unfinished as well). Tarott hosted the Pancontinental Games in 2008 (Geolympiad, in OGF language, but I refuse to use this name due to an obvious real world reference). And here's the incomplete Tarott 2008 Summer Pancontinental Games venues list. Enjoy browsing the venue locations! It's written as a "proposal", as if there would be a competition. But I think everyone agrees that it's OK to add Tarott for the 2008 Games as a fact to OGF world history?!

Best regards and happy mapping!

Johannes

@Luciano: And of course, names are very important to me, as you can see within the already detailed sections of Tarott. So, yes, I was inspired by your Mapper's challenge #5 as well.

Geology of OGF

Evening Everyone!

I created a rough map of possible plates and faults in our world.

http://s271.photobucket.com/user/PColumbus611/media/OGF%20Faultlines_zpshs1j7lnb.jpg.html (I tried to add this as an image, but am unable to)

I have not studied geology. I drew these lines based on the shapes of the landmasses. If anyone wants to clean this up or improve on this idea, feel free! I named the plates based on the continents. Some of the smaller plates are named after a randomly chosen country.

The arrows represent the possible movement of the plates.

They are:

.1 The Oranotic Plate

.2 The Pela-Kartum Plate

.3 The North Ereva Plate

.4 The Ereva-Hesperic Plate

.5 The West Uletha Plate

.6 The East Uletha Plate

.7 The Tarephene Plate

.8 The Ataraxie Plate

.9 The North Archanic Plate

.10 The Dandria Plate

.11 The Antarephene Plate

.12 The South Archanic Plate

The city of Kroün

One month has passed away from that moment when I claimed my territory and started to edit it. Unfortunately, I do not have so many time I'd like to have for editing it, so my progress is quite slow. However, I'd like to show to OGF community the capital of Semeria, the city of Kroün. I have created the main roads, university, hospital, parks, some government features. So I want to know what are you thinking of it.

Opengeofiction is now running its own instance of the Overpass API.

The URL for queries against the API is:

Or you might check out the web interface at
http://osm3s.opengeofiction.net/overpass-turbo/

Please note that the availability of the API must be regarded as somewhat experimental. At the moment it looks like the new tile server has enough capacity to run this additional service. But if it turns out to have a negative impact on the tile generation performance, it'll have to be switched off.
